Founded in 2016, the Turkish Mathematical Competition (TMY) gained international status in 2022, being renamed the Turkic International Mathematics Olympiad (TIMO). With this transformation, the Olympiad transcended the character of a local contest and evolved into a scientific platform dedicated to advancing mathematics education on a global scale.
The primary objective of TIMO is to foster students’ mathematical reasoning, proof culture, and creative problem-solving skills. The Olympiad is structured around rigorous, fair, and transparent evaluation principles. The problems presented are grounded in internationally recognized academic approaches and are designed not only to assess knowledge but also to measure analytical thinking abilities.
TIMO’s academic board consists of experts who have studied, conducted research, and taught at prestigious universities worldwide. Several of them were participants of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in their youth and later gained prominence by coaching national teams. Thanks to this tradition, the problems designed by TIMO are both methodologically precise and pedagogically enriching.
Among the students mentored by the academic board are gold, silver, and bronze medalists at the IMO. This achievement underscores the strength of TIMO’s academic foundation and validates its methodological credibility at the international level.
Thus, TIMO is more than a competition: it is an academic platform that connects school-level mathematics with university study and research environments. Its core mission is to cultivate scientific thinking, strengthen the culture of proof, and advance the application of mathematics among young learners.
Uncovering and enhancing mathematical skills among Turkic students.
Expanding scientific and cultural exchange across nations.
Promoting mathematics, creativity, and critical thinking for global competition readiness.
Boosting interest in mathematics among younger generations.
Create a Mathematics Olympiad that leads both Turkic and global students to international success.
Encourage academic and personal growth in youth through improvements in education.
Strengthen educational and scientific cooperation in decommunization across Turkic countries.
Develop future mathematicians and innovative leaders in various scientific fields.
Promote a deeper understanding of mathematics in education and daily life.
Introduce the Turkic world's potential in mathematics and science to the international community.
Target excellence in education and science, contributing to students' personal and professional development.
The Turkic International Mathematics Olympiad (TIMO) is an international academic competition open to students from Grade 2 to Grade 12.
The Olympiad consists of two stages: Selection Round (SR): national qualifying exam. Final Round (FR): international stage held in Baku, Azerbaijan
Registration is managed through the official TIMO website or via accredited country representatives.
The Selection Round will be held between 01 December 2025 – 15 April 2026 (with possible extension until 15 May). Students will sit for a 90-minute paper-based exam with 25 multiple-choice questions, scored on a +4 / −1 / 0 system.
The Final Round will take place on 22–26 May 2026 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Contestants will sit for a 120-minute exam with 25 problems. Most problems are multiple-choice, but some open-ended items may be announced in advance.
Participants must register under the Category corresponding to their grade level:
Category 1 – Grade 2
Category 2 – Grade 3
Category 3 – Grade 4
